Derek in Mpls/St Paul Magazine

Mpls/St Paul Magazine is doing a feature in its May issue on Minnesota childrens' book authors & illustrators. Included will be a brief story about Derek's experiences working on the book Little Quack's Bedtime and also a sidebar about one of his own favorite childhood books. We will include a link here as soon as one becomes available.


Derek to speak at the L.A. Times Festival of Books


Derek will be speaking and signing at the Los Angeles Times Festival of Books on the UCLA Campus in Los Angeles, California this spring. He will be reading and talking about the most recent Little Quack book Little Quack's Bedtime and introducing his brand new book, Gladys Goes Out to Lunch. Derek's father is originally from the Los Angeles area, and Derek travelled there often with his family to visit relatives when he was growing up. He's thrilled to be returning for this fantastic event!

Little Quack's Bedtime was recently chosen by Parenting Magazine as a Parenting Picks- Best Book. A picture from the book appeared with a brief description in the March 2005 issue. Hooray for Little Quack!




Little Quack Goes for a Snooze in South Korea


We've got it. Unfortunately, we can't read a word of it, but we do have a copy. Little Quack's Bedtime is now available in South Korea, complete with a sparkle finish on the cover. It's truly a great thing when your art can reach around the world. Derek is thrilled that children in South Korea are being lulled to sleep at night by his work.

Reviews for Little Quack's Bedtime are still coming in, but the ones that we've seen so far are fantastic.

School Library Journal calls it a "...delightful tale that is sure to please even the pickiest of bedtime procrastinators."

Kirkus says "Youngsters will readily identify with the ducklings' anxieties and find themselves soothed by Mama Duck's explanations." It goes on to say, "The gentle cadence of Thompson's tale coupled with Anderson's rich illustrations makes this an ideal candidate for the last story of the night."
