Ballyhoo Bay is in Cheerios!
Pick Up a Copy in Specially Marked Boxes Today!

It's that time of year again, and the fine folks at General Mills have selected Ballyhoo Bay as one of their featured books in boxes of Cheerios. The tale of Mira Bella, an art teacher who loves the beach, her students and Ballyhoo Bay challenges builders who come in and want to develop condos and high-rise apartments on the beach. Appearing as a part of the hugely successful Spoonfuls of Stories program, Ballyoo Bay is being distributed in more than a million specially marked boxes of Cheerios.

Derek is honored to once again have his work included as a part of this amazing reading program. Many thanks to the folks at General Mills! Thanks also to First Book for all of their great work, and to Simon & Schuster who helped make it possible.

If you're interested, your family can make a donation to First Book using special donation forms included on Cheerios boxes. One hundred percent of the funds will be used to buy books and the donations will be sorted by zip code, with books going back to the communities where the donations came from.

Derek Exhibiting in
College of Design Alumni Show

The College of Design at Iowa State University is turning thirty this year! And to celebrate it's birthday, they're exhibiting 30 pieces of artwork from their many creative alumni.

The show is curated by David Revere McFadden, chief curator and vice president for programs and collections at the Museum of Arts and Design in New York. McFadden selected the works from 362 submissions by 206 alumni, and an original illustration from Derek's book, BALLYHOO BAY, was one of the selections.

The show will be open August 3 through September 26 and is being exhibited in Gallery 181 in the College of Design at Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa. A reception and a lecture by McFadden will be on Monday, August 24th beginning at 6pm. The exhibition and events are free and open to the public, so stop on by and check it out!
